Working with the International Organization of Standardization (ISO) on Development of Mobile ID Technology for ISO 18013-5
Waltham, Massachusetts, (April 25, 2019) – GET Group North America, (“GET Group NA”) an innovative developer of mobile ID technology with over 20 years of experience in identity management, today announced that it has created, together with its global partner Scytáles AB, a fully-functional demonstration of the International Organization of Standardization (ISO) 18013-5. ISO 18013 is the international standard for driver’s license credentials and Part 5 will specify the technical and interoperability requirements for mobile driver’s licenses (mDL).
GET Group NA and Scytáles AB together create a nimble, global partnership to produce mDLs that can be issued and used everywhere. Both companies continue to participate in the development of ISO 18013-5 and support the latest “committee draft” of the technical standard. The standard supports user controlled direct device-to-device communication (offline mode) and user approval of a connection to the DL Issuing Authority to retrieve information (online mode). GET Group NA has successfully demonstrated both modes. Multiple modes of interaction, including Bluetooth LE, NFC, WiFi Aware, QR code, and online Internet requests for ID, mean flexible options for how mDL can be used everywhere around the globe.
GET mID™ is a mobile identity platform that combines compliance with identity security requirements, privacy by design, and American Association of Motor Vehicles Administrators (AAMVA) standards with the convenience and usability of a mobile application. GET mID™ can allow users to securely and efficiently convert to digital identification. GET mID™ provides a high assurance identity on a user’s mobile device, represents a convenient, secure and instant alternative to traditional physical identification documents, and utilizes formidable data encryption algorithms and communication security measures.
“Transitioning towards mobile identification not only offers benefits in terms of user convenience, it also has the potential to combat fraud, reduce identity theft and positively impact the privacy of citizens,” said Joel Perez, Solutions Director at GET Group NA. “In order for mobile ID technology to truly achieve its maximum potential, driver’s licenses need to go digital soon. GET mID™ can let that happen now. We are proud to be working through ISO to ensure standards and technology support widespread adoption of secure, next-generation mobile identification.”
“Developing an ID solution that is efficient, affordable and secure, while at the same time compliant with the global identification standards, is not an easy task to achieve. We joined forces with GET and gathered the best experts in the field to develop this state-of-the-art technology that allows users to securely store their legal ID on their phone, control the interactions, and let others verify the data in real time,” explains Anna Seddigh, VP & Chief Communications Officer at Scytáles AB.
GET Group NA’s mobile ID technology is available today with customer- supported use cases for driver’s license, age verification, law enforcement authentication, real-time provisioning and revocation, secure authentication, encryption, and other applications.
